The lovely staff at Kerry’s let me borrow a Jeep Wrangler Sport for 24 hours so I could write a review. It would be a review to be told from a ‘normal’ persons opinion and not to mention such words as ‘differentials’ or ‘alternators’. I will leave that for the friendly staff in the showroom to explain those vital statistics. It’s safer that way.
Before I begin, I must mention that I have never driven or been a passenger in a Wrangler of any shape, age or size before climbing into my Cosmo Blue, 2 door demo model. I have friends who love them, and friends who loathe them, but I remain unbiased at this point.
I secretly hoped that the Wrangler wasn’t going to be a smooth, luxurious ride. That’s not what Wranglers are about for me. I like the type of car that you need a sports bra to drive and can hang out of the window to reverse park. The Wrangler didn’t disappoint.
That’s not to say that it’s not a city slicker’s car. I’m sure the Wrangler wouldn’t mind if it didn’t get to see a dirt road in its lifetime. It’s extremely comfortable, easy to drive and I love the interior, especially the big, bold aircon vents which give the wind in your hair feeling without having to remove the roof. Speaking of removing the roof, the whole car is like a life-size mechano set. It has a 3 part removable hard top roof plus both doors are easily removed. After lowering the windshield its time to strap down your cargo and go off road – or cruising to work… either way!
The Wrangler Sport also does a great job of living up to its name with a 2.8 litre CRD Turbo engine. Its not sluggish by any means and after discovering my high heels were hindering my accelerating action, I kicked them off and had a little Schumacher moment, the ear to ear grin still firmly in place.
To sum up the Wrangler Sport in a nutshell, it’s fun, sexy and I LOVED driving it. Who cares if you don’t take it off the beaten track and if you do, make sure you take someone with you and make full use of that passenger ‘Jesus’ bar.
